The Classical Pilates System was invented by Joe H. Pilates

Joseph Hubertus Pilates was born on December 9, 1883 in Mönchengladbach (near Düsseldorf), Germany. His father, a native of Greece, had been a prize-winning gymnast, while his German-born mother was a naturopath who believed in the principle of stimulating the body to heal itself without artificial drugs.

The Origin of Pilates. Joseph Hubertus Pilates was born in Germany in 1880. He was a sickly child who suffered from many of the common childhood ailments of the time, including rickets.

Joseph Pilates made extraordinary claims about the benefits of this defined science called “The Art and Science of Contrology.” Perhaps no one can explain it’s benefits better than Joseph Pilates in his own words: “‘Contrology’ is the complete coordination of the body, mind and spirit.

It was created in the 1920s by the physical trainer Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) for the purpose of rehabilitation. Some of the first people treated by Pilates were soldiers returning from war and dancers such as Martha Graham and George Balanchine (to strengthen their bodies and heal their aches and pains).Jun 26, 2015

The Classical Pilates System is available now in Roanoke with affordable fees and is for everybody that want to learn the “the Art and Science of Contrology” called Pilates; and this method has been used for years for movie actors and remarkable physiotherapy and of course Certified Classical Pilates teachers.

The Classical Pilates has been using this technique for years because it is low impact, flattens the abdominal muscles and reshapes and tones the whole body without stressing the joints. Dancers, Golfers, Football players, tri-athletes, ice skaters and gymnasts all understand the importance of alignment to reduce muscle imbalance and use Pilates to improve muscle firing patterns for their activities.

The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.” – Joseph Hubertus Pilates, in 1965, age 86.
